Golf Products That Could Be Better Designed for Women Golfers

Golf Products Designed for Women Golfers

Women golfers deserve gear that fits their game, from gloves shaped for their hands to sunscreen that does more than block UV rays. This article examines two products that could better meet those needs. Insights from golf and skincare experts explain what thoughtful design should look like.

Engineer Gloves for Women’s Hands

Golf gloves for women are shockingly bad. Most brands just take the men's version, shrink it, and call it a day. The fit is wrong, the grip is off, and the fingers are proportionally too long for most women's hands.

I noticed this because my mom picked up golf a few years ago. She's got small hands, and every glove she tried either bunched at the fingertips or squeezed her palm in the wrong places. She ended up cutting the fingers shorter on a men's small, which is absurd. A sport where grip is literally everything, and half the potential market is stuck modifying gear with scissors.

The core problem is that women's hands aren't just smaller versions of men's hands. The palm-to-finger ratio is different. The knuckle spacing is different. The pressure points when gripping a club are different. But glove manufacturers treat "women's" as a color and size variant, not a fundamentally different design spec. It's lazy product development dressed up in pastel leather.

What I'd want to see is a brand that actually 3D-scans a few thousand women's hands, maps the grip pressure during a swing, and engineers the glove from that data. The technology exists. Motion capture, pressure sensors, parametric design, all of it is table stakes in 2025. Someone could build a direct-to-consumer golf glove brand for women that fits like it was custom-made, at a reasonable price point, using the same AI-driven manufacturing tools that are transforming every other category.

This is a pattern I see constantly. Industries leave money on the table because they design for the default user and treat everyone else as an afterthought. The company that takes women's golf gloves seriously, not as a pink marketing play but as a genuine engineering challenge, will own that category overnight.

Upgrade Sunscreen With Skincare Benefits

If I could improve one piece of golf gear for women, it would be sunscreen.

I'm a golfer and founder of OUTBOUND, a performance skincare brand for sports & outdoors, so I'm recommending my own product with full disclosure. Before founding OUTBOUND, I spent more than a decade at L'Oreal, and I saw an opportunity to bring the sensorially and skincare benefits of K-beauty into sun protection designed specifically for active lifestyles.

My pick is the OUTBOUND Active Ready Sunscreen SPF 50.

Golfers can spend four to five hours outside, yet many traditional sports sunscreens still feel heavy, greasy or purely functional. I wanted to create sunscreen that women golfers could genuinely enjoy using every day — something that provides high-performance sun protection while feeling much closer to a hydrating skincare product.

Our formula takes a "K-beauty skincare-first approach", featuring ingredients including rice bran, valued for hydration, nourishment and brighter-looking skin, and Centella asiatica, loved in Korean skincare for its soothing and skin-barrier-supporting benefits. The sunscreen is lightweight, non-greasy and leaves no white cast, making it comfortable to wear through an entire round and easy to integrate into a regular skincare routine.

That combination of golf performance and skincare is also why the product has resonated with serious golfers, including professional players. "LPGA golfer Jeongeun Lee6 has used OUTBOUND sun care", which is especially meaningful to me because professional golfers spend so many hours exposed to the elements and are incredibly demanding about what they use on the course.

For me, designing better products for women golfers isn't about taking an existing golf product and making it pink. It's about understanding what women actually want from products they use for hours on the course: "performance, comfort, beautiful texture, skincare benefits and effortless everyday use."
